π‘ Time Zone Tips
Day vs Night indicator: Cards switch to dark mode automatically when it's night-time (before 6am or after 8pm) in that city, so you can tell at a glance who's awake.
DST-aware: All times automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time in every country. Clocks update live every second.
India and Iran are offset: India is UTC+5:30 and Iran is UTC+3:30 β they use half-hour offsets, which sometimes surprises travellers and remote workers.
Date line crossings: When it's Monday evening in New York, it's already Tuesday in Tokyo. Use the Meeting Planner tab to find times where everyone's on the same working day.
π Convert a Time Across Time Zones
π‘ Converter Tips
+1 day / β1 day labels appear when the converted time falls on a different calendar date than your source β useful when scheduling across the International Date Line.
Dark cards indicate night-time in that location β a quick visual cue that you might be scheduling a call at an unsociable hour.
All conversions are DST-aware. The converter uses IANA timezone rules, so if a country is in summer time, the offset is automatically applied for the date you enter.
π International Meeting Planner
Select up to 4 time zones and a date. The grid highlights the best times to schedule a meeting where everyone is in working hours.
β³ Event Countdown Timer
The countdown shows time remaining from right now until your event in the selected time zone.
New Year 2027
Updates every second Β· DST-aware
β° Countdown Ideas
New Year countdowns: Use the event timezone to count down to midnight exactly where you or loved ones are celebrating β even if you're in a different country.
Flight departures: Enter your departure time in the airport's local timezone to know exactly how many hours and minutes you have to get ready.
Live events & sports: Major sporting events like the Super Bowl, World Cup, or Olympics broadcast at a fixed local time β count down in the host city's timezone.
Remote work deadlines: If your client or manager is in a different timezone, enter the deadline in their timezone so you know exactly how long you have, no mental arithmetic needed.
How does the time converter handle Daylight Saving Time?
This converter uses the browser's built-in IANA timezone database (the same one used by every modern operating system). When you enter a date, it automatically checks whether DST is in effect in each time zone on that specific date and applies the correct offset. Countries observe DST on different dates β the US and UK are three weeks apart each spring, for example.
What is UTC and why is it used?
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks. It's essentially the same as GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) but doesn't change for Daylight Saving Time. All time zones are expressed as an offset from UTC β e.g. New York is UTCβ5 in winter and UTCβ4 in summer (Eastern Standard Time vs Eastern Daylight Time).
Which countries don't observe Daylight Saving Time?
Most countries near the equator don't observe DST because sunrise and sunset times don't vary much throughout the year. Notable examples include China, Japan, India, most of Africa, and the Middle East. In the US, Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii don't observe DST. The EU voted to abolish DST transitions but hasn't fully implemented the change yet.
What's the best time to schedule an international call between New York and London?
New York is typically 5 hours behind London (or 4 hours during EDT). The "golden window" is 2pmβ5pm London time (9amβ12pm New York time) β both cities are firmly in working hours. Use the Meeting Planner tab to see the full overlap grid for your specific date.
Why do some time zones use 30-minute or 45-minute offsets?
Most time zones are whole hours from UTC, but some countries chose offsets that better reflect their geographic position. India (UTC+5:30) and Sri Lanka (UTC+5:30) use 30-minute offsets. Nepal uses UTC+5:45, and Australia's Lord Howe Island uses UTC+10:30 in winter and UTC+11 in summer. Iran uses UTC+3:30.
